Lot 163 - Archangel Gabriel Icon
A reduced size museum quality replica of the icon Archangel Gabriel painted by Theophanes the Greek (c. 1405) measuring 26” x 14½”. The original icon is featured in the famous icon screen of the Cathedral of the Annunciation which is a part of the ensemble known as the Museums of the Kremlin, Moscow.
Part of a limited edition of 375 numbered (Arabic) icons offered to collectors and 24 numbered (Roman) to be placed in Russia, licensed by the Museums of the Kremlin, Moscow.
The replica has been reproduced on acid free archival paper and has been mounted by craftsmen on stable wood. It has been gilded in 22 karat gold and hand finished by a master icon painter.
Theophanes the Greek was a master Byzantine icon painter. He was commissioned to paint many of the icons in the original Cathedral of the Annunciation in Moscow, Russia. The icon carries the seal of the Cathedral of the Annunciation.
