Buzz Aldrin’s autograph presented with a small piece of Kapton Foil from the Apollo 11 spacecraft

A small piece of Kapton Foil from the Apollo 11 spacecraft measuring approximately 4mm x 3mm. Gold-colored on the front and with a silver backing.

The Apollo 11 spacecraft’s Command Module, which carried Buzz Aldrin (1930- ) and Neil Armstrong (1930- ) to the Moon, was protected from the extreme environment of deep space by a thin layer of a material known as Kapton Foil. Its job was to reflect the sun's heat off the ship and maintain the temperature within. Due to the extremely fragile nature of the foil, most of it burned off the ship during Columbia's fiery 25,000 mph re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. A small amount was salvaged by the North American Rockwell Recovery Team on board the Hornet aircraft carrier.

In fine condition. Accompanied by a copy of a Certificate of Authenticity from Robert E. Miner of the North American Rockwell Apollo Launch Team.
