Lot 126 - Elizabeth Emanuel's Royal Wedding Scrapbook
A scrapbook of Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ Royal Wedding by Elizabeth Emanuel
A scrapbook (measuring 8½” x 5¾”) of deckle-edged hand-made paper incorporating lace and fabrics used for Princess Diana’s wedding gown and bridesmaids' dresses. The scrapbook was made by Elizabeth Emanuel (1953- ), co-designer of Diana’s wedding dress.
The front cover features a black and white print of the famous photograph of Diana on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral on her wedding day and is edged with the specially commissioned Nottingham lace used on the bodice of Diana’s bridal gown.
The inside cover is autographed by Elizabeth Emanuel.
Page One of the scrapbook features an original watercolour sketch of the gown entitled “Wedding Gown of Lady Diana Spencer”. This sketch also bears the autograph of Emanuel.
The second page features a press clippings print ‘Fairytale comes True’ applied with fragments of bridal tulle, ivory faille bow, pearl beads, lace used on the hem and two swatches of silk all taken from Diana's bridal gown fabric.
Page 3 consists of facsimile sketches copied from the original press release; spangled tulle taken from the bridal veil and a bow of apricot silk from the bridesmaids' dresses worn for the Royal Wedding.
Page 4 features a facsimile sketch of one of the bridesmaid's dresses, including lace and fabric swatches taken from the dress fabrics.
The fifth page is applied with a woven satin Emanuel label, a photograph of the Emanuel's studio with a handwritten note by Elizabeth Emanuel which reads “Our little studio in Brook St where Lady Diana's wedding gown was made. This photo was taken on the day of the wedding and it was decorated with satin bows specially for the occasion". The note is applied to the upper corner with a tulle pochette (using spangled bridal veiling) enclosing a spool of thread which was used to secure the tiara to the veil.
Page 5 has a compliment slip signed by Elizabeth Emanuel.
Elizabeth Emanuel and her husband David were chosen to design Princess Diana’s wedding dress in 1981. Together they created one of the most famous wedding gowns in history.
A unique and extremely personal memento of the Royal Wedding, in fine condition.
