A pair of jodhpurs worn by Humphrey Bogart as Don Ellis in Chrysalis
A pair of tan coloured jodhpurs worn by Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) in a theatre production of Chrysalis at the Martin Beck Theatre, New York from November 15 until December 1932. Label reads Aardi Inc, 73 West 34th St. N.Y. with handwritten notations “H. Bogard, 10/28/32”. This is the date the costume was issued to Bogart.
Bogart began his acting career on Broadway in the 1920s. He played Don Ellis in Chrysalis (a play by Rose Albert Porter) at the Martin Beck Theatre in November and December, 1932.
Bogart presented the jodphurs to Pat Ridings, an employee of the theatre, as a Christmas present in December 1932.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance stating how the item was obtained.
