Lot 144 - Jim Clark/Graham Hill Autographed Menu
A Hotel de Paris, Monte Carlo Dinner de Gala menu from the 25th Monaco Grand Prix (1967) signed by British motor racing legends Jim Clark (1936-1968) and Graham Hill (1929-1975). The menu measures 4.75” x 7.1”.
Clark has written in blue ink “To Pat, Just to tell you the “old” boy is behaving” and has signed his name below.
Hill has also signed, adding, in black ink, “To Pat, With best wishes and thanks for the loan of Gordon --- !!”
The menu has impeccable provenance, originating from the collection of Gordon Huckle who was the mechanic on Jim Clark’s car from late 1966 to January 1968, and the Chief mechanic of the Lotus G.T. Team from February 1968 to the end of 1969.
The accompanying letter of provenance states: “During the post race dinner gala at the Hotel De Paris in Monte Carlo for the 25th Grand Prix of Monaco, on the 7th May 1967, Jim Clark and Graham Hill signed this menu with a personalised message to my wife Pat. Graham Hill came second in this race and Jim Clark retired on lap 43 with a broken rear shock absorber.”
Some light staining, mentioned for accuracy only, otherwise in very good condition.
