Lot 90 - John Lennon Owned Guitar
A Fender Duo-Sonic guitar once owned by John Lennon
Originating from the collection of John Lennon (1940-1980) the guitar (serial number L22604) was obtained by Lennon’s personal assistant Mal Evans for his old friend Barrie Marshall of Marshall Arts P.A. Company. At the time, Marshall was managing musician Clive John who was desperately searching for a Fender Duo-Sonic or Musicmaster guitar. When Clive John found out that Marshall was visiting the United States, he asked him to try and find one of the guitars. While in New York, Barrie Marshall asked Mal Evans if he knew where to find one. At this time, John Lennon was on the West Coast after being escorted from a Smothers Brothers concert for drunken heckling. Mal Evans found the Duo-Sonic in Lennon’s apartment and presented it to Marshall to give to Clive John.
The guitar has since been heavily used by Clive John and shows a lot of wear.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance written by Clive John prior to his passing as well as a letter from his wife.
