Lot 148 - Roger Bannister Signed Photograph
A signed photograph of runner and neurologist Roger Bannister (1929- ). Measures 8¼" x 11¾". Signature in blue felt pen along the top. The photograph shows Bannister crossing the finish line at a race. The enthusiasm and apprehension of the spectators is very visible.
Roger Bannister was the first person in recorded history to run a mile in less than four minutes. The then 25-year-old medical student raced at Iffley Road Track, Oxford in May 1954. 3,000 spectators gasped as he sprinted the last 200 yards to the finish, breaking the world record. In later years he became a respected neurologist before retiring from the medical field in 2001.
